It’s Plungapalooza ’09 featuring the MSP Polar Bear Plunge and it’s winter fun like you’ve never seen!  Save the date and be a part of the coolest event of the year alongside Ravens players, Ch. 11 media personalities, 98 Rock’s Mickey, Amelia & Spiegel; Sarah“The Queen” Fleisher; Stash, and more.  An estimated 25-30,000 people are expected to take part in the festivities, including of course the thousands upon thousands who will dare to bare it all and take a chilly dip in the Chesapeake for Special Olympics Maryland!

Final plans are underway, but attendees can look forward to all the old favorites, plus an expanded festival, great live music, more games and displays, a Friday evening entertainment opportunity (TBA) and even the chance to be crowned “Miss Polar Bear Plunge”.

All it takes to take the Plunge is $50 in pledges and nerves of steel.  The festival is open to all spectators free of charge.

In consideration of participating in the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, I represent that I understand the nature of the event. I represent that I am, and my minor children participating are, qualified to participate, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in the event. I acknowledge that I have been advised by Special Olympics Maryland, Inc. to consult a physician prior to participation. I acknowledge that if I believe the event conditions are unsafe for me or my minor children, I will immediately discontinue participation in the event. I fully understand the event involves risks of serious bodily injury, including permanent, disability and death, which may be caused by: my own actions or inactions, the actions or inactions of others; the conditions in which the event takes place; and/or the negligence of the Releasees named below. I also understand that there may be other risks not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time. I give my permission for photographs taken at the event in which my image, or the image of any of my minor children appears, to be used for promotional and/or advertising purposes by Special Olympics Maryland, Inc., without compensation to me or my minor children. I agree to release Special Olympics Maryland, Inc. from all claims and liability relating to the use of my name, likeness, photograph, or statement. I fully accept and assume all risks and all responsibility for losses, costs and damages that I incur in connection with my participation, or the participation of my minor children, in the event. I hereby release from all liability, discharge and covenant not to sue: Special Olympics Maryland, Inc., and its administrators, directors, agents, volunteers, and employees; other participants; sponsors; advertisers; and the owners and lessors of the premises on which the event takes place (all and each of the foregoing are "Releasees"). I understand that I am releasing all claims, demands, losses or damages or any kind, whether sustained by me or my minor children, whether caused in whole or part by the negligence of Releasees or otherwise, including negligent rescue operations. I further agree that if, despite this release, waiver of liability and assumption of risk, anyone makes a claim against the Releasees on behalf of me or my minor children, I will indemnify, save and hold harmless each of the Releasees from any loss, liability, damage or cost which may result from such claim.

To register the day of the event, simply print and fill out the Pledge Form and bring it along with you to the event.

Terms & Conditions

Individuals

  • Participant must raise a minimum of $50

Teams

  • Must have a minimum of 10 members to be eligible for team prizes
  • No team registration on day of event
  • Each team member must raise minimum of $50

Team Divisions

  • Division 1: 10-19 members
  • Division 2: 20-29 members
  • Division 3: 30-39 members
  • Division 4: 40-99 members
  • Division 5: 100+ members
  • Sponsor Division

All participants receive Plunge sweatshirt, complimentary lunch, plunge photo, and the great feeling of freezing your "fur" off for a truly worthy cause.
