Think that you embody the spirit and essence of what makes the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge so great? Do want to show your Baltimore pride in true winter “Hon” style?  Then enter the first-ever Miss Polar Bear Plunge Pageant for your chance to be crowned either Miss or Little Miss Polar Bear Plunge or Miss Hypothermic Hon 2009!

Contest Overview:

We are searching for Miss and Little Miss Polar Bear Plunge and for Miss Hypothermic Hon!  We believe that Miss/Little Miss Polar Bear Plunge should have unique Plunge style, be able to promote the Plunge experience, and of course have taken the Plunge herself.  Miss Hypothermic Hon should show off her cool weather style and of course her essential “hon-ness”.

How It Works:

To enter the contest, contestants should arrive in their finest Plunge or Hon attire (NOTE: Creativity is “queen”…this does not mean we are hoping for every Miss/Little Miss contestant to arrive in a bear costume.  Rather, we are seeking creative and unique costumes that tell the story of the event.) Then report to the Polar Bear Plunge Pageant booth in the festival tent and fill out a brief questionnaire.  Questionnaires can also be filled out prior to Plunge Day, but still need to be turned in at the booth.  Photos will be taken of all contestants at that time.

A panel of judges will select five Miss Hypothermic Hon, five Miss PBP and five Little Miss PBP finalists from the original group of applicants.  Those ten (15) finalists will be invited on stage for the final round of judging.  This final round includes a strut across the stage, as well as a talent portion for Miss PBP and Miss Hypothermic Hon that specifically includes reciting a poem or singing a song about the Plunge.  Little Miss PBP contestants will be asked an interview question by the Pageant Host.

Schedule:

The review committee will begin accepting Miss and Little Miss PBP applications beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 24th.
The deadline for submission is 11:30 a.m.
The five finalists for each category will be announced/posted at Noon*.
The final judging round for Little Miss Polar Bear Plunge will take place on the stage at Noon.
The final judging round for Miss PBP and Miss Hypothermic Hon will take place on the stage at 2:15 p.m. (Note:  please plan your Plunge time accordingly).

*Depending upon the number of entries for Little Miss PBP, we reserve the right to hold a preliminary round on the Rams Head Live Entertainment stage inside the festival tent beginning at 11:30 a.m.  Please pay attention to posted notices and announcements.

The Prize:

All 3 Pageant winners will be featured on the Plunge website (www.plungemd.com) and in materials promoting the 2010 event.  In addition, Miss PBP will win a spa package at Studio 921 Spa and Salon in Baltimore and Little Miss PBP will win a $100 Visa Gift Card.  Miss Hypothermic Hon will also be featured in the 2010 Plunge materials and receive a spa package from Studio 921 Spa and Salon in Baltimore.  Additionally, she will be an honored guest at the Miss Hon Contest during the 2009 HonFest.

All three pageant winners will also be competing – along with the winners of the 2 costume contests – for the Grand Prize of a Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas in April.
