Missing HonFest? Get Your Hon On – AGAIN - at the 2010 MSP Plunge!
HonFest has come and gone but you can keep your inner Hon alive by joining the Plunging Hons team and getting your Hon on during THE event of winter! Because the Hons have become such an integral part of the Plunge and the two events can only be described as “a match made in Bawlmer, hon”, we recently sat down with Kate Callahan, Plunging Hons Team Captain and one of the  principal organizers of HonFest, to ask her a few questions. Here is what Kate had to say:
Q: What does the Plunging Hons team mean to you personally?
A: It started as a way for a small group of friends to do something outlandish and fun while giving back in thanks for the many gifts that all of us are blessed with in our lives. Now, it’s the same thing, only bigger and with a force of energy behind it that restores my faith in humanity a little more with each step of progress we make.
Q: What does HonFest mean to you?
A: Each year, after months of effort and quasi-insanity, the end product that is HonFest brings about feelings of relief, exhaustion, pride, unity, and a sense of accomplishment. As the festival has grown, the chaos has increased, but so has the reward. The year was different though and I think it’s a thing of symbiosis. We’ve been working together for long enough now that there is silent communication that takes place behind the scenes, and it was so evident this year that many of us were wondering what it was that we were missing because everything went so smoothly. That feeling of calm was really awesome and the coolest thing was that amidst the calm, we were able to watch the partnership efforts of HonFest and the Plunge unfold with success and smiles! I know I speak for all of HonFest in saying that the contribution that this partnership makes to SOMD is something that we are truly grateful to be a part of.
Q: What keeps bringing the Hons back to the Plunge?
A: The Plunge means that there are people out there looking out for our society and all of its members. That is something that we all want to be a part of.
Q: What are your goals for the team this year?
A: We want to exceed last year’s fundraising, which was around $7,500. And some of us want to Super Plunge – Heidi, Lisa and I are all in! In fact at our post-HonFest crab feast, Heidi says, “I am going to Super Plunge”, so Lisa says, “Ok, I will too.” So even though I think they are jerks, I can’t let them do it without me!
